Liposuction is a technique employed for remodeling fat tissue. It is used to treat localized areas under a firm skin. The indications for it`s use are specific. It is not a treatment for obesity or cellulite. The long term results are good as the fat removed in this fashion is removed permanently. This technique has improved the treatment of fat problems in the hip and thigh areas where previous surgical procedures produced excessive scarring. The fat tissue is suctioned away through a tube or canula attached to a suction pump. Normally fluid is injected into the tissues prior to this in order to dilute the fatty tissue and ease it`s removal. This is a procedure that is normally done under general anaesthesia as an out patient, however smaller areas can be treated under local anaesthesia as an out patient either at the hospital or office.
