Lipectomy (tummy tuck or Abdominoplasty) is a procedure in which excessive skin and fat is removed from the middle or lower part of the abdominal wall. Distended skin is tightened, the abdominal musculature reinforced, and the lower abdomen flattened. The appearance of the abdomen is improved by removing skin folds, scarring and stretch marks. Multiple pregnancies and marked weight gain are frequently responsible as they stretch the abdominal wall tissues. Sometimes the deeper elastic structures are torn, resulting in stretch marks. Proper diet and exercise may help up to apoint after weight loss or a pregnancy, but no amount of exercise will take away laxity and skin folds. Abdominoplasty is a common operation in plastic surgery. The results are usuall very satisfactory. This operation improves a patient`s figure, allows her to better acquire properly fitting clothing, and to be more comfortable while engaging in physical activity.
