Varicose veins are dilated superficial veins most often occurring in the legs. These veins are distended and filled with blood resulting in their unsightly appearance. Very large veins are normally removed surgically. Smaller veins can be injected with a material that causes the vein to shrink and block and therefore improving the look of the legs. This treatment may require several and repeated injections to accomplish the desired improvement.
